If I asked anyone, one of the biggest reasons why they choose not to travel is money. Even though I hate to admit it, money is what makes the world go round. It also gives us the power to buy tickets, food, and shelter while traveling.
Now the same people would agree that if money weren’t an issue, they wouldn’t hesitate to start traveling. Which is an idea that might’ve seemed unrealistic a few years ago, but not anymore.
People are finding more and more ways to make money while traveling. One of the most popular ways is by freelancing. In the past freelancing meant visiting offices and working on different projects for them in person. However, nowadays everything can be at the tips of your fingers from wherever you are.
I took the plunge into online freelance work. My specialty is in writing so those are the kind of projects I have been working on since I started. The thing with online freelancing is that you’re not going to be super successful at first.
In the beginning you need to find as many projects as you can. For me this included a number of projects I was unsure about. Here’s an example, one of my first big projects I found a great deal. Someone needed an Ebook ghostwritten, it had to be 30k words and done in two weeks. I thought this was possible even though I had plans to go to Sicily and North Carolina in the next two weeks.
The trick was what this Ebook was about, the client wanted a Self-Help/Christianity book. Now being someone that wasn’t raised with a strong Christian faith, I wasn’t sure about taking the project. But, the money was the most I had ever seen since starting and I knew if I wanted to be serious about freelancing, I needed to take it.
I originally thought I would get enough of it done before I boarded my plane for Sicily but it turned out I was only 1/3rd of the way through and had a lot more to do once my feet touched the sand.
In-between shopping the unfamiliar streets of Siciliy, struggling to communicate through the language barrier, and eating some of the freshest food I ever had, I worked on this Ebook. I managed to find WiFi at the local beach bar in order to send my progress. Then after I would be done for the day, I would go hang out on the rocky beach.
It definitely wasn’t the typical vacation I was used to, but it showed me just the kind of life I was willing to live. Devoting time to work on a project which I ended up becoming passionate about and being able to do it in a beautiful plac e was exactly what I wanted to do.
The thing with freelancing is that there are so many things you can do to make money. Whether it’s writing, digital marketing, graphic design, or even simple data entering, the options are limitless. Especially on the world wide web.
Some websites that are great to find gigs are freelancer.com, upwork.com, or even craigslist.com. All you need to do is define your skills, take the time to browse through countless projects, and submit proposals that best show off why you should be the one working on that project. Whatever you choose, put the work and dedication in so you too can be working on a project while lying on the beach in Sicily.
